How to promote in Facebook groups without getting your posts removed

Most posts that get removed aren't bad. They were just posted in the wrong group, on the wrong day, or with a link where links aren't allowed. So how do you figure out what a group allows before you post, and write promotion that stays up?

Group rules and Facebook rules

A group's admins enforce its rules. Facebook's rules, meaning the Community Standards and the spam policy, apply everywhere. Break a group rule and you only lose that group. Break Facebook's rules and your whole account gets restricted.

One more thing: you can't buy an ad inside a specific group. Ads Manager doesn't have that option. So “advertising in groups” really just means posting as yourself.

Where promotion is allowed

  • Buy-and-sell groups. Write your post like a listing: price, area, photos.
  • Groups with a promo day, like “Business Monday” or “Self-Promo Saturday.”
  • Groups with a pinned promo thread. Post your offer as a comment in that thread, not as a separate post.
  • Local business groups and “promote your business” groups. Easy to post in, but mostly other sellers read them.

If a group isn't one of these, assume promotion isn't allowed.

How to check the rules in a minute

  1. 01Open the pinned posts and the group description.
  2. 02Find anything about promotion, links, sellers or spam.
  3. 03Answer four questions. Is promotion allowed here? On what day? Where does the link go? How should the post look: with a price, an area, a photo, a hashtag, or do you message an admin first?
  4. 04Scroll the last ten posts. If other people's promotion is up and getting replies, it's tolerated.

The 70/30 rule

It's a ratio, not a schedule. At least 70% of what you do in a group should be useful to people, and at most 30% can be promotion. Useful means answering questions, giving tips without links, leaving thoughtful comments, and asking questions that get people talking.

Often the best promotion isn't a post at all. It's a detailed answer to someone's question where you mention your product as one of the options. And if you join a group and start selling the same day, you've broken the rule no matter how you count.

Where to put the link

  • Write the post so it's worth reading without the link: a tip, a short story, a photo, a question.
  • If the group allows it, put the link in a comment or ask people to message you.
  • If the whole point of the post is the link, like a listing on your website, keep it in the post. Just expect less reach.
  • Don't shorten links with bit.ly and similar services. People can't see where they lead, and filters often flag them.
  • If the group says where links go, do exactly that.

Why a post disappeared without explanation

Admins can set up Admin Assist to automatically decline posts with links, with certain words, or from new members. You think the post went out, but it never shows up in the group. Reread the rules. Try posting without the link, then without any words that might set off a filter. If you joined recently, give it a couple of weeks. Other reasons are covered in Facebook jail.

Promo posts that stay up

  • The opening is worth reading even without the offer: a tip, a result, a question.
  • There's one offer: one product, one price, and it's clear what to do next.
  • One real photo, not a banner crammed with text.
  • A link only where it's allowed.
  • You reply to comments. While there's a conversation under a post, people keep seeing it, and admins are slower to delete it.
Example

Moving this month? Book your truck before the 25th. Most local movers are fully booked the last week of the month. We still have two Saturday slots in Austin: 2 movers + truck, $120/hour, no hidden fees. Comment or message me and I'll send you the details.

How Postyfy helps

  • You can keep separate group lists, like “Promo OK,” “Promo day: Monday” and “Help only,” and the Schedule runs each one on its day.
  • Content check: paste a post and AI tells you whether it's fine, risky or breaks the rules, and explains what exactly is wrong.
  • Spintax and AI rewrites, so the same offer never goes out word for word to every group.

Let Postyfy do the repetitive part

Warm-up, spintax, AI rewrites, pauses between groups and one schedule for all your accounts. Set it up once, then just check the report.
